Enjoy a rousing evening of music when the Dallas Brass return to the South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center on Friday, October 9, with their program, American Musical Journey. The 7:30 pm show incorporates a full complement of brass and percussion for a musical travelogue through American history, from the time of George Washington to the present day. The program’s music has been selected from the masters – Copland, Bernstein, Gershwin, Berlin, Sousa; from bands like the Tijuana Brass and Chicago; and styles from Dixieland, swing, Broadway, folk, patriotic and pop!
The Dallas Brass will provide an exciting clinic for students in the South Milwaukee 8th Grade Band and South Milwaukee Wind Ensemble, who will then rehearse and perform one piece on stage with the Dallas Brass in their evening concert. The opportunity for students to interact and perform with an ensemble of this caliber is enormous and rare – perhaps an once-in-a-lifetime experience!
According to Michael Levine, founder and director of the Dallas Brass, “a Dallas Brass concert is intended for the entire family. Our goal is to entertain and enrich by playing great music.” The ensemble includes: Michael Levine (director, trombone), Brian Neal (trumpet), D.J. Barraclough and Charlie Porter (trumpet, alto horn), Clint McCanless (tuba) and Jeff Handel (drums/percussion).
The Dallas Brass performed in South Milwaukee three years ago and has been the most requested artist since. It is recommended to buy your tickets early. Ask any student who participated last time and they’ll tell you it was one of the best days of their life. Tickets are on sale now and are $10 - $25. Tickets may be purchased through the Box Office at 414-766-5049 or online at www.southmilwaukeepac.org/tickets.html.
