Muskego Impact Currently in Third Place

July 23, 2013

The Impact returned to Land O’ Lakes eastern division action this past weekend splitting a doubleheader with the New Berlin Lakers at Horn Field. The Impact’s league record now stands at 6-5 (10-5 overall) and they are currently in third place with nine games to play over the next nine days as they look to make up a number of rainouts before the playoffs.

In the first game on Sunday, the Impact lost 3-1 as they just could not get the bats going against Lakers’ pitcher Lucos Vogerst collecting only two hits both by Joe Kooping. Kooping’s second hit was a home run to left field in the bottom of the seventh as the Impact averted the shutout. Dave Mihlsimmer took the loss dropping his record to 4-2. He pitched well deserving a better outcome as the Lakers did not score until the 5th inning picking up an unearned run. Then the Lakers picked up two crucial insurance runs in the top of the 7th inning. Mihlsimmer final line was 7 innings, 3 runs, 9 hits, 7 strikeouts and one walk.

In the second game, the Impact won 6-1 with the first three batters getting hits as they picked 2 runs on 4 hits in the 1st inning doubling their total from the first game in both categories. They extended their lead to 6-0 in the 3rd inning with four consecutive hits by Kooping, Andy Liss, Nick Schmidlkofer and Mike Norman. Kooping continued his hot streak from game one picking up 2 hits, and Mike Norman joined him with 2 and also picked up 3 rbis.

Peter Jewell handled the pitching duties in game two and pitched another gem picking up where he left off last weekend and improved his record to 4-0. He did not allow a run until two outs in the top of the 5th inning and it was the only run the Lakers would muster up. Jewell pitched 6 innings allowing that one run on 5 hits, striking out 7 and only walking one. Brother Jake pitched the final frame allowing no hits, striking out one and walking two.

The Impact play Racine on the road on Tuesday, and Butler at Harden on Wednesday returning to Muskego this weekend. They are scheduled to play Racine in a doubleheader on Saturday at the new Park Arthur diamond and then back at Horn on Sunday to take on West Allis in a doubleheader. Both doubleheaders start at noon. Come out and enjoy some amateur baseball at its best and cheer on your hometown team as they look to move up in the standings.
