Franklin's Cavanaugh chosen for UWW Hall

Jeff Cavanaugh of Franklin will be inducted into the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 20.

Cavanaugh was a three-year letterman on the Whitewater baseball team from 1972-75. He was a two-time all-conference choice in 1974 and 1975, being named team captain in 1974 and earning NAIA All-America honors in 1975.

In 1974, he hit .397 with 27 runs scored and 27 runs batted in for the Warhawks.

He graduated in 1976 with a degree in special education. He retired from teaching at Cudahy High School and is currently working part-time at Milwaukee Area Technical College in the disability specialist support program.

He will be inducted at a banquet on the Whitewater campus on Oct. 20 and will also be honored at halftime of the Warhawks' football game that afternoon.

Whitnall's Kasten makes WIAC All-Time Soccer Team

Derek Kasten of Greenfield, a Whitnall High School graduate, was named to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Time Men's Soccer Team.

Kasten played at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh from 2001-03.

The team is named in conjunction with the conference's centennial celebration.

Junior Popes schedule tryouts for baseball team

Tryouts for the Junior Popes baseball program will be held on Aug. 11 from 1 to 4 p.m.

The U-8 and U-9 group tryouts will run from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and the U-10 and U-11 from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

Also, coaches are needed for the U-8, U-9 and U-11 age levels. Teams will play between 14 and 20 league games and three to five tournaments per season.
