Greendale students to hold concert for Haiti

Greendale - Students will hold a benefit concert for Haiti at 6 p.m. Friday in the auditorium of the high school, 6801 Southway.

Students of all ages will perform, as will Linda Raymond Siegel, a Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra percussionist.

Tickets are $2 and bigger donations are encouraged.

Family story time is March 1 at Hales Corners library

Hales Corners - The library will hold a family story time at 6:30 p.m. the first Monday night of each month in the children's area of the library, 5885 S. 116th St.

On March 1, attendees will celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday.

Middle school dance includes raffles and food

Oak Creek - Parents of the Oak Creek's 95-96 Storm 2010 baseball team are hosting a middle school dance from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Feb. 20 at the American Legion Post, 9327 S. Shepard Ave.

The dance will include a raffle and concessions. Proceeds benefit the Storm's July trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C., where the team will participate in the Ripken Experience Baseball Tournament.

Spring preschool at Franklin High School

Franklin - High School Child Development II students will sponsor a preschool in April and May.

The class for children age 3½ to 5 will include free play, large and small group activities, snack and story time. It will be held April 30, May 3 through May 7, May 10, May 11 and May 13.

Controlling funeral costs subject of fireside chat

Oak Creek - Heritage Funeral Homes, 9200 S. 27th St., will hold an information session, "How to Control Funeral Costs," at 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Feb. 18.

The fireside chat allows the public to ask funeral-related questions in a casual, relaxed setting. Hot apple cider, coffee and light snacks will be served.

Reserve your place at Valentine's Day brunch

Franklin - A Valentine's Day brunch will be held at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Polish Center of Wisconsin, 6941 S. 68th St.

Cost is $23.95 for adults, $10 for children age 6 through 12 and free for children younger than 6.

Interfaith group to host annual Snowball Gala

Oak Creek - South Milwaukee/Oak Creek Interfaith will hold its second annual Snowball Gala fundraiser event from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday at the Oak Creek Community Center, 8580 S. Howard Ave.

The gala will feature a dinner buffet, music, entertainment, door prizes and a silent auction.

Tickets are $25 per person or $250 per table and can be purchased at the community center or the South Milwaukee/Oak Creek Interfaith office, 1327 Marshall Ave., South Milwaukee.

Library book sale is romance-themed

Franklin - The Franklin Public Library will hold its annual romance book sale from Feb. 11 to 20. Prices range from 50 cents to $1.

This year's sale will also include back issues of several magazines, as well as computer books and videos.

Oak Creek High School to hold open house

Oak Creek - Oak Creek High School will hold its Open House "Knight" from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the school, 340 E. Puetz Road.

Teachers will be available to answer questions, and attendees will take tours of the building. Tables displaying high school activities will be placed throughout the building. Information about athletics will be in the cafeteria.

Games, food and more at card party fundraiser

Oak Creek - A card party will be held from 6 p.m. to midnight Friday at St. Matthew Parish, 9303 S. Chicago Road.

The admission price of $10 includes games, door prizes, raffles, beverages, snacks and a home-cooked meal.

The event benefits area charities and economically challenged Oak Creek residents and families.

Greendale sets kindergarten registration

Greendale - Registration for 4-year-old and 5-year-old kindergarten will be held the week of Feb. 15.

The three elementary schools will open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday; 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Feb. 18 and 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Feb. 19.

Registration will be at Canterbury Elementary School, 7000 Enfield Ave.; College Park Elementary School, 5701 W. College Ave.; and Highland View Elementary School, 5900 S. 51st St.

Children must be 4 years old by Sept. 1 to enroll in the district's Time 4 Learning Charter School, and 5 years old by Sept. 1 to enroll in kindergarten.

Parents and guardians should bring a certified birth certificate, immunization records and proof of residency.

Several classes bloom at Botanical Gardens

Hales Corners - Friends of Botanical Gardens has announced a class schedule for February.

• Growing a Chocolate Lover's Garden will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Participants will learn about the plants to grow in a chocolate lover's garden.

• Growing Gardeners will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday and Monday. Participants will learn about worms, make a worm tracks picture and eat a tasty worm snack.

• Garden Plants of Prey will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Feb. 18. The class will show a glimpse of the world of carnivorous plants and how participants can grow and care for the plants in their own homes.

• Green Gardening, held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Feb. 27, will show participants how to reduce the use of pesticides and fertilizers in their gardens.

Children's book clubs meet at Hales Corners Library

Hales Corners - Book Buddies, an after-school book club, will meet for stories and a craft or activity from 4 to 4:45 p.m. on certain Thursdays at the Hales Corners Library, 5885 S. 116th St.

The club, for children in kindergarten through third grades, will meet Feb. 11, Feb. 25, March 11, March 25 and April 22.

Snack Attackers, a book club for grades 4 through 6, meets from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 18, March 4, March 18, April 15 and April 29.

Social event benefits Whitnall Booster Club

Hales Corners - The Whitnall Falcon Booster Club will hold its 12th annual social at 7 p.m. Feb. 27 at Deer Haven Golf Course, 19180 W. Cleveland Ave.

The evening will feature casino games, raffles, cash prizes, food, snacks and a cash bar and a grand prize drawing for a 50-inch plasma television.

Cub Scouts holding March blood drive
