Here are, in my view, interesting, noteworthy columns and articles from the past week that I highly recommend (You will note that on occasion, I do not endorse the opinions of the author and may point that out. Despite my disagreements, I still feel the piece is worth a read).

Porkulus II: Return of the Phony Jobs Boondoggle

Immutable law of Beltway political physics: The only real jobs that a government stimulus stimulates are government jobs. A year after President Obama signed his first trillion-dollar economic stimulus package into law, the federal workforce is at all-time high. The nation’s unemployment rate has swelled to 9.7 percent, but Washington’s economy is thriving."

$787 Billion Reasons Why Journalists Love the Stimulus

The stimulus might not have created any jobs for journalists, but it certainly created a lot of work for them. It takes a lot of effort to make a $787 billion bill look good. In the case of the big three networks, they did it almost every other day – 172 stories in slightly less than a year."

Scenes from a Counter-revolution

That he stands virtually alone is a damning commentary on our politics."

There’s Something About Sarah

As for the alleged hypocrisy of Sarah Palin, the implication is that the use of a hand-written note (as it were) during a packed ballroom speaking engagement is somehow equivalent to the inappropriateness of the President using Teleprompter-One in a classroom of 6th graders. This implication is both false and laughable."

National Prayer Breakfast: Obama Wants Civility Now, Dammit!

When I hear the president call out for civility it reminds me of Wile E. Coyote trying to work himself into the good graces of the Road Runner by wearing a Little Bo Peep costume.

Civility? Please"

Dooming Minority Girls

The worst consquence of the president’s actions is that for those groups of teens where pregnancy is highest - blacks and hispanics - Obama has pretty much obliterated any chance of these young girls ever receiving the education they need to avoid pregnancy, contracting STD’s and all the other complications that go with young girls having sex. Given that the vast majority of black and hispanic teens attend public schools, striking funding for abstinence education programs and instead funding only programs with an inferior record certainly ensures that their teen pregnancy and sexual activity rates will stay the worst."

10 Most Wanted Corrupt Politicians for 2009

Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, today released its 2009 list of Washington's 'Ten Most Wanted Corrupt Politicians'."
