Friday night on InterCHANGE

Here are the topics the panel will discuss on InterCHANGE, Friday night at 6:30 on Milwaukee Public Television Channel 10, with a repeat Sunday morning at 11:00:

Obama comes to Green Bay to talk about health care.  Does the country need a national health care plan?  Would this be socialized medicine?  Will Obama and Congress be able to get this done?  Is quality health care a right or a privilege?  Or, is it a responsibility?  Should those of us with benefits be forced to pay an additional tax on those benefits, in order to fund health care for those who don’t have private benefits?

Two Milwaukee police officers are shot by an 18 year old.  The mayor and the police chief
make a very big deal about how community members offered assistance.  A tattoo parlor
owner helped care for an injured cop, as did a cab driver.  A UPS driver helped direct
officers to where the suspect was hiding.  Is this the kind of citizen cooperation that they
need to address crime in the central city?  Is it fair for Mayor Barrett and Chief Flynn to
use this incident to lobby for more gun control measures?

Should UWM be allowed to build a School on the lakefront where the Pieces of Eight property is?  Or, would that be better left to green space or another high visibility building like Discovery World or the Calatrava?  Does it make sense to build a school like this just a short distance from the point where MMSD dumps millions of gallons of sewage every time there’s a big rainfall? of Freshwater Sciences
