This Just In ...

Kevin Fischer is a veteran broadcaster, the recipient of over 150 major journalism awards from the Milwaukee Press Club, the Wisconsin Associated Press, the Northwest Broadcast News Association, the Wisconsin Bar Association, and others. He has been seen and heard on Milwaukee TV and radio stations for over three decades. A longtime aide to state Senate Republicans in the Wisconsin Legislature, Kevin can be seen offering his views on the news on the public affairs program, "InterCHANGE," on Milwaukee Public Television Channel 10, and heard filling in on Newstalk 1130 WISN. He lives with his wife, Jennifer, and their lovely young daughter, Kyla Audrey, in Franklin.

When will FranklinNOW get around to reporting on ...

The Franklin Common Council meeting that took place on Tuesday night. I’m posting this blog early Wednesday evening. If a reporter covered the meeting, when will a story be published?





A little after 5:00 this afternoon (Wednesday) John Rasche, the latest FranklinNOW millennial reporter wanna-be to cover Franklin government posted a tweet:

Just wrote "the delay is due to a delay" in a draft. Boy, do I need to take a nap. Or another cup of coffee. Who's to say? That about says it all.

The word news means exactly that - things which are new. Topics which are current are good news. Consumers are used to receiving the latest updates, and there is so much news about that old news is quickly discarded.

A story with only average interest needs to be told quickly if it is to be told at all. If it happened today, it's news. If the same thing happened last week, it's no longer interesting.
