Culinary yes-yes #83

I’m not a “health nut” to say the least.  I’m a live-for-the-moment, have-that-extra-cookie-or-get-hit-by-a-bus-tomorrow sort of person.  As a mom, I make sure that Kyla gets plenty of fruits & veggies and takes a vitamin supplement every day.  But I’m not a Sugar Nazi and I think organic foods are the biggest hoax out there.

For years, I would have been considered unhealthy because I use only real butter in everything I cook & bake.  There is no way I would prepare cookies, brownies, or cakes with anything but pure unsalted butter.  On our dining table you’ll never see a tub of anything that is supposed to replace that delicious, pale yellow stick of creamy dairy goodness.

I guess I was country when country wasn’t cool.  It appears that butter use is coming full circle as people realize this…

While I’m too young to personally remember the days of driving to Illinois for contraband margarine, I’ve heard plenty of stories over the years.  I guess it was a big deal as a kid to be allowed to squeeze the yellow coloring into the “alternative fat” that was considerably less expensive than a dairy farmer’s pride and joy.  Oh, yes, the 1950’s and 1960’s was to butter what the 1920’s were to gin & bourbon.  Turned your average housewife into a common criminal:



I’m more than happy to be old-fashioned in my baking, cooking, and spreading preferences.  Then again maybe I’m not so old-fashioned after all.  Maybe I’m actually hip and trendy.

Sticking to a tried-and-true natural dairy item?  It will always be a Culinary Yes Yes in the Fischer home!
