I've got photos never seen before on FranklinNOW

Last week I had the pleasure of attending a happy occasion at Franklin City Hall. Officials who were victorious in the April 1 election were sworn in to office.

It was a great civics lesson for Kyla. I think her favorite part was the Pledge of Allegiance.

I took some photos that aren't the best but I provide for the sake of posterity.

Steve Olson is about to take the oath of office for mayor from City Clerk Sandi Wesolowski. He actually already was mayor as of midnight that same day. The ceremonial oath was administered at the Common Council meeting on April 15.

Next, Kristen Wilhelm was sworn in after being re-elected alderman. She was later elected Common Council President by her peers.

Susanne Mayer is sworn in as alderman.

Mayer gets a floral surprise from her children. Kevin tells me bouquets are rarely tossed at Common Council meetings!

The new mayor, Steve Olson, reads and presents a city proclamation to retiring Mayor Tom Taylor. Olson choked up quite a bit as he read. The lengthy reading took up about 90% of the meeting!

Mayor Olson also read a long list of appointments to Common Council committees, boards and commissions. Olson noted that this was pretty routine stuff and quite dry so if anyone wanted to get up and leave he would understand. Moments later Olson noted that the first folks to take him up on his offer were members of his own family!

Sorry, Steve! But at least I don’t have a picture of that!

Good luck to one and all serving Franklin!
