This Just In ...

What part of NO does Basil Ryan not understand?

When I drive down S. 51st Street I see one household still has two (Basil) Ryan for Mayor yard signs posted. Now I know why.

In the recent Franklin primary election for mayor, 1830 voters or 77.35% of those that went to the polls voted AGAINST Basil Ryan.

In the words of President Barack Obama, it was a shellacking.

Normally, when a candidate suffers such a thrashing, the candidate bows out graciously.

Not Basil Ryan, who is asking people to vote for him April 1 as a write-in candidate.

The man foolishly thinks he has a chance because as John Rasche of FranklinNOW (Ryan’s personal PR agent?) reports, the group that was behind a successful 2003 recall of Ryan, an alderman at the time, "was disbanded, based on a settlement with the district attorney's office, in 2006 after the DA filed civil charges accusing the group of filing a false registration statement and failing to accurately record how much money it collected and spent.”

Even if true, the disbanding of the group based on filing or clerical errors doesn’t take away from the actions that turned voters against Ryan.

Talk to any poll worker and they’ll tell you the write-in process is a complete joke that simply delays the inevitable process because votes for the likes of Mickey Mouse and Elvis must be tallied. Now Basil Ryan wants to be part of that farce (He certainly has that right to humiliate himself even further).

Of course, if you dare criticize the politically exiled and disgraced Ryan, he has been known to resort to lawyering up in a plot to intimidate or silence you. That kind of politics we don’t need or want in Franklin.

Don’t be distracted by the task at hand. The question on April 1 is Steve Olson or Steve Taylor. When Basil Ryan gets pummeled again, hopefully then he’ll get the message and just go away.
