A Top Ten List doesn't scratch the surface of issues in Franklin

At the end of 2013, I listed,  in my view,  the top ten Franklin stories of the year. Of course the round-up is subjective. And not every news story can crack the top ten.

Last April a Gallup poll asked folks "What do you think is the most important problem facing the country today?" I think you can guess what ranked near the top.

About that same time I wondered on my blog what if a similar question was posed just to the residents of Franklin?

"What do you think is the most important problem facing Franklin today?

With so many new readers I thought it would be good to re-print possible responses I suggested back then. Which do you think would rank near the top? It’s not easy, you see, picking a top ten. If you've been paying attention to the goings-on in Franklin, you might appreciate the following:

We need at least two or three new high schools otherwise we won’t be able to keep up with, like, ya know, South Milwaukee.

Forget improved academics. Our schools need swimming pools, badminton courts, a football field with a retractable roof, separate facilities for hip hop and Avant-garde dance practice and plasma TVs in the cafeterias.

Noxious weeds.

Dogs impersonating as coyotes.

The lack of a full-time mayor.

Not enough banks.

Blinding LEDs that the city can use but small businesses should not.

No martini lounge.

FranklinNOW keeps switching reporters. Could they for once just please come up with a good one?

Emerald Ash Borer, or whatever the hell it’s called.

Too many unlicensed lemonade stands.

Not enough outdoor cafes with access to pedestrians that would be wonderful attractions this April.

How come we can’t schedule a groundbreaking for new school improvements when it’s not flooding all over the place?

Too many guys cheating on their wives are using Franklin motels to do so.

Why must we have to enter a contest to help our Fire Department?

I’m confused. To attract new business, do we trash that brochure and create a $100,000 economic development director position after we cut the position years ago?

Not enough sidewalks.

Too many sidewalks.

The beet juice we’re spraying on our roads is a waste of good veggies.

Steve Taylor is hogging jobs during tough economic times.

We need a brand new community center and aquatics center but someone else has to figure out how we pay for them.

I don’t care what the mayor says, we are not better than West Allis.

When, oh when are we going to hold Trick or Treat this year?

Franklin, it is now 8:00 p.m. Are you in bed and do you know where your children are?

We’re not taxed enough. Allow me to bend over.

Most of us Franklinites are fiscal conservatives but we keep electing tax and spend liberals.

Big mouth bloggers who have the audacity to write about what actually goes on in Franklin.
