The Barking Lot-America's Finest Dog Blog (06/15/13)

The Barking Lot

The Barking Lot is a regular weekly feature of This Just InWritten by my lovely wife, Jennifer and me.  It opens with the weekend dog walking forecast followed by the main blog from dog lover, Jennifer. Then its DOGS IN THE NEWS and our close. Enjoy!

THE WEEKEND DOG-WALKING FORECAST: We grade the weather outlook for taking your pet outdoors.

TODAY:  Morning showers give way to scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon. High of 72. "F" in the morning, "C" in the afternoon.

SUNDAY:  Partly cloudy. High of 78. "A"

Here's my lovely wife, Jennifer, with this week's main blog:

Right now I’m fortunate that I can stay at home with Kyla.  Eventually, I plan to get an “outside the home” job.  It will have to be a perfect though.  I will need part-time hours flexible enough to allow me to still participate in her school activities.  It must be close enough to home that there is no major commute.  I’m not seeking a career at this point but the job description should require more than “must be able to spell own first name accurately.”  And I need to be able to bring our (future) dog there.

Well, bring the dog at least once a year that is.

Yep, it’s time for every dog-loving employee’s favorite annual event, Take Your Dog To Work Day.  Friday June 21st has been designated as the day.  In an effort to promote equal time & opportunity for other species, June 17 – 21 is Take Your Pet To Work WEEK.  But seriously, who’s gonna toss a cat in a carrier and expect it to be the life of the office party?

For nearly 15 years this annual event has been asking “pet lovers to celebrate the humane-canine bond and promote pet adoption by encouraging their employers to support.”  If you think THAT’S cool, there are companies all over that allow you to let Fido sit under your desk regularly.  Mother Nature Network’s site lists 10 companies that let you bring your dog to work. boasts another 11 companies with pet-friendly work places.

If your pooch shows paw-fect manners this could be the ideal time to show your boss that it really is a great idea.  A one-day event could lead to an every-day occurrence.  While I understand that there are some understandable objections, there are so many obvious benefits of pets at work.

how this information to your boss, along with the specifics from the Take Your Dog To Work site.  If he/she objects, they must have felines in their family.

Thanks, Jennifer.

It’s time for DOGS IN THE NEWS, canines that made headlines the past week. And as we often point out, the news isn’t always good.

Family targeted with parts of dead dogs.

No, the dog wasn't licking his toes.

CoCo is amazing.

Good for you, Prince!

Hero guide dog saves two trainers.

They are heroes.

Brave dog.

Is Wisconsin a dog state or a cat state?

Your dog is sick? There's an app for that.

File it under Things It Never Occurred to You to Worry About.

What is my dog thinking?

Is your puppy a prodigy?

Flying photobomb: Stacy Keibler shared a recent photobomb by a dog jumping into a pool

Stacy Keibler, the 33-year-old girlfriend of George Clooney shared an Instagram photo showing her getting outdone by a flying canine leaping into a pool. “I got #photobombed by a belly-flopping dog,” she wrote.

That's it for this week. Thanks for stopping by. Please tell a fellow dog lover about us. How about e-mailing that friend our blog.

We close as we always do with our closing video. We have two this week. Here's our first, Keeping Dogs from Becoming Dinner:

And our final video, on the much lighter side:
