"After a decade of grinding war, our brave men and women in uniform are coming home. After years of grueling recession, our businesses have created over six million new jobs. We buy more American cars than we have in five years, and less foreign oil than we have in twenty. Our housing market is healing, our stock market is rebounding, and consumers, patients, and homeowners enjoy stronger protections than ever before. Together, we have cleared away the rubble of crisis, and can say with renewed confidence that the state of our union is stronger."
President Obama in his State of the Union address.

"The American people don’t expect government to solve every problem. They don’t expect those of us in this chamber to agree on every issue. But they do expect us to put the nation’s interests before party. They do expect us to forge reasonable compromise where we can. For they know that America moves forward only when we do so together; and that the responsibility of improving this union remains the task of us all."
President Obama in his State of the Union address.

“Nothing I’m proposing tonight should increase our deficit by a single dime.”
President Obama in his State of the Union address.

"Our goal in government should not be: how many more people can we get on these programs. Our goal in government should be just the opposite: how many people can we get off of them because we've empowered them to control their own lives, to control their own destiny, and move themselves and their families forward. If you want to get help in terms of unemployment compensation, we want to make sure you're out hustling each and every week as much as reasonably possible to go out and find that job. We're going to give you the skills and backing and the opportunity to do that, but you've got to work to make that happen as well.”
Governor Scott Walker. As part of his budget proposal for the next biennium, Walker doesn't want to see able-bodied childless adults needlessly depending on the government. For people in that group collecting food stamps, they will have to find work or participate in a state-sponsored training program in order to continue collecting benefits. Those collecting unemployment would have to look for work four times a week instead of two.

"Hurricanes. Tornadoes. Riots. Terrorists. Gangs. Lone criminals. These are perils we are sure to face--not just maybe. It's not paranoia to buy a gun. It's survival. It's responsible behavior, and it's time we encourage law-abiding Americans to do just that.

"Responsible Americans realize that the world as we know it has changed. After Hurricane Sandy, we saw the hellish world that the gun prohibitionists see as their utopia. Looters ran wild in south Brooklyn. There was no food, water or electricity. And if you wanted to walk several miles to get supplies, you better get back before dark, or you might not get home at all.

"When the next terrorist attack comes, the Obama administration won't accept responsibility. Instead, it will do what it does every time: blame a scapegoat and count on Obama's 'mainstream' media enablers to go along...A heinous act of mass murder--either by terrorists or by some psychotic who should have been locked up long ago--will be the pretext to unleash a tsunami of Gun Control.

"No wonder Americans are buying guns in record numbers right now.”
NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre

"I want a hot shower and a daggum Whataburger.”
56-year old Deborah Knight of Houston after disembarking the Carnival Cruise ship Triumph. It finally docked after 5 days without power.

"I appreciate the patience of our guests and their ability to cope with the situation. And I'd like to reiterate the apology I made earlier. I know the conditions on board were very poor. We pride ourselves on providing our guests with a great vacation experience, and clearly we failed in this particular case."
Carnival CEO Gerry Cahill apologized at a news conference and later on the public address system as people were disembarking Triumph.

"This is the same kind of thing that people went through in Katrina ..."
A CNN reporter during a live interview with Carnival Cruise ship Triumph passenger Roy Kenny.

“Let's put that in perspective. Katrina was a major devastation. We're on a frickin' cruise ship and we're all just having a good time.”
Rob Kenny responding to the CNN reporter.

“Are you glad to be back?”
A CNN reporter to a passenger on the Carnival Cruise ship Triumph.
