The Barking Lot is a regular weekly feature of this just in…Written by my lovely wife, Jennifer and me. It opens with the weekend dog walking forecast followed by the main blog from dog lover, Jennifer. Then it’s DOGS IN THE NEWS and our close. Enjoy!
THE WEEKEND DOG-WALKING FORECAST: We grade the weather outlook for taking your pet outdoors.
TODAY: Light snow that began overnight continues all morning, diminishing to flurries, then cloudy skies. Snow showers will re-develop around 7:00 tonight and last until Sunday morning around 7:00. High of 18. "F"
SUNDAY: Becoming partly cloudy by 8 am, and remaining partly cloudy throughout the day. High of 14. "F"
Here’s my lovely wife, Jennifer with this week’s main blog:
It’s no secret… I’m not Football’s #1 fan.
Despite my writing about hosting a great Super Bowl party, we’re not having anyone over. Kevin doesn’t like either team, and I couldn’t care less about the entire thing. I might try to catch a glimpse of the commercials but even the halftime show holds no interest for me.
So, what AM I going to watch this Sunday? You know it: The PUPPY BOWL on Animal Planet, sponsored by Pedigree Dog Food. Talk about a time when everyone is a winner. The dogs that play in the Puppy Bowl are up for adoption and certainly do find loving forever homes. Pedigree Dog Food gets fantastic exposure. You know there are tons of non-football lovers who need something to watch so Animal Planet gains some new viewers. And even if you’re not in the immediate market to adopt, it truly is your cuteness overload for the year.
Speaking of successful “up-for-adoption” stories, make sure you keep your eyes on Biscuit and Butterscotch this year. They have Sato Project founder Chrissy Beckles to thank for their being in the big game. I find it inspiring and amazing what one woman and her soft spot for dogs has accomplished.
Good Morning America gave us a sneak peak at this year’s game and I’ll bet you that at least one person on that news team ends up with a pup!
And finally… Since my heart won’t exactly be in San Francisco this Sunday I’ll let the canine competitors have their say:
Time now for DOGS IN THE NEWS, canines that made headlines the past week.
Secret Service dog dies while on duty.
Starving dog eats her own tail.
This dog can send you to jail.
San Francisco has a puppy problem, and you can thank the "green" crowd.
Military to use brain scans in dog training.
Robo-dogs help students learn to treat animals in emergency situations.
Dog sniffs out valuable whale vomit.
A bull's penis makes its way to The Barking Lot.
A gay dog?
Good dog, Madison!
Have we ever mentioned that we love happy endings? Here's another!
Column: The messy joy of babies and dogs.
The lady, the dog, and the deli sandwich order.
RIP: Barney Bush
THAT’S IT FOR DOGS IN THE NEWS.

Who is America's best dog?
And we close as we always do with our closing dog video. What would you do if you lost your dog?
