Here are, in my view, interesting, noteworthy columns and articles from the past week that I highly recommend (You will note that on occasion, I do not endorse the opinions of the author and may point that out. Despite my disagreements, I still feel the piece is worth a read).

Precedent teaches us the left really wants all of our guns

"I submit to you that what is going on here is the first assault on private gun ownership. They will take what ever they can get now and continue to chip away until all you can legally own to protect your family with is a baseball bat."

PRAVDA: Americans, never give up your guns

"For those of us fighting for our traditional rights, the US 2nd Amendment is a rare light in an ever darkening room. Governments will use the excuse of trying to protect the people from maniacs and crime, but are in reality, it is the bureaucrats protecting their power and position. In all cases where guns are banned, gun crime continues and often increases."

Massacre solution

" the Left gears up to bear down on law-abiding people because some demoniac’s murder spree has left us all reeling, I would like to put forth a proposal that doesn’t mitigate our constitutional right to keep and bear arms but rather makes it more difficult for people to hook up and breed. It’s an expanded version of what Dennis Miller alluded to back in the mid ‘90s—namely the Brady Bunch Bill: a waiting period before people get married and start a family."

25 people, places and things liberals love to hate

"20) People who believe they should be allowed to choose what light bulbs they want to use in their own house."

You can't call a pretty girl pretty; What kind of country are we becoming?

"I do not argue that today’s essay is our most pressing problem. But as scores of fine writers address the various angles of our republic’s dangle from a precarious thread, I thought I’d venture to the periphery to lament another type of change which accrues to our societal detriment. We are becoming a nation that caves to humorless, scolding bullies on matters of little or no consequence. Not exactly a fiscal cliff or an Islamist-friendly CIA director, but a problem nonetheless."

We are sick

"This season’s crud is stronger than usual. It grabs you and makes you feel like … crud.

'I’m sick as a dog,' I overheard another person saying.

"No, you’re not. I have dogs, and they don’t get sick. If they did get sick, I would rush them to the veterinarian and get them well.

"And, if you are sick as a dog (let’s assume that a dog got really sick and had to be rushed to the vet), what are you doing out here in public, spreading germs?"

The NFL needs some BCS

"For the first time since the NFL expanded its playoff format in 1990, all eight of the teams in action—the 49ers, Broncos, Falcons, Packers, Patriots, Ravens, Seahawks and Texans—rank in the top 12 among the NFL's 32 teams in both points scored and points allowed. Put simply, there's not a bowl of noodles in the bunch. But if this is the strongest playoff bracket in NFL history, you wouldn't know it. Many of the league's marquee teams are nowhere to be found. All but one of the games is a rematch of a regular-season game that was mostly lopsided."
