Culinary yes-yes #9

As my husband has said many times, we Wisconsinites are still learning how to do this:

Admittedly we’re not the fastest bunch in the country when it comes to picking up on trends.  (Notice I said “picking up on trends” and not “setting trends.”  Never in a million years will Wisconsin qualify as trend SETTING.)  Just when we’re wrapping our culinary craniums around the Cosmo and cupcakes, foodies in the know can chuckle at how long it takes us to catch on to the latest and greatest.

There are die-hard traditionalists out there who claim that something can be so perfect that it is a classic, it shouldn’t be messed with, and will never go out of style.  Case in point:  a martini.  A true martini, made with vodka or gin, with olive or twist.  It shouldn’t be re-invented with 12 different flavors and/or garnishes.  Go Bond or go home, I say.

That’s not to say that everything must stay the same, and that we must remain in a food-and-drink rut.  There’s nothing wrong with branching out, trying new things, embracing something different.  As we say goodbye to 2012 and look towards our foodie future, there are some things to consider…

Wondering what’s in store for your libations in the year to come?  In 2013, we'll see brighter and less-filling cocktails served up more quickly, in fresh new formats and with a splash of humor.”   OK you’ve figured out where your bartender is heading.  What about your chef?  From fancy fast food to treats with a twist, here's what coming to your breakfast, lunch and dinner next year.

Perhaps with a bit of luck the Badger State can learn a new step this year:

Learning about food and drink trends for the coming year (if not necessarily embracing them?)  A Culinary Yes Yes for sure!
