The Twelve Cookies of Christmas: Cranberry Eggnog Twirls

12 Cookies of Christmas 2012

I’m always on the hunt for new Christmas Cookie recipes.  With books, magazines, and websites, the possibilities are truly endless.  However, I try to find recipes that will yield large batches and store well.  When the list of ingredients isn’t long or exotic, I’m happy.  I seek traditional flavors of the season and highlight gingerbread, eggnog, fruits, and nuts.

As with last year’s series I am also highlighting ideas for beverage pairings including coffee, tea, creamers and a treat for after 5:00 pm.  These drinks with similar flavors to the cookies should provide an over-the-top taste experience and offer an alternative to the usual cuppa.

Grab a mug of your fave beverage, pre-heat your oven and ENJOY!

Cranberry Eggnog Twirls – New for 2012

Originally I found the recipe for Cranberry Eggnog Twirls in the 2011 Better Homes and Gardens Celebrate the Season book.  In searching for an on-line version I realized that none is available.  Whether you own the book, buy it this year, or borrow it from the library you can turn to page 106.  For another option, you can follow this blogger’s recipe.  The only change from BH&G is with the filling.

Better Homes & Gardens original filling recipe:

½ c. cranberry preserves or jam

1½ tsp. cornstarch

½ c. finely chopped pecans, toasted

BH&G says to store, layer cookies between waxed paper in an airtight container and cover.  Store at room temperature for up to three days, or freeze for up to 3 months.  (I’d guess that in the refrigerator they will last much longer than three days.)

Beverage Pairings

Cranberry Crème

Cranberry Pomegranate or Cranberry Apple Zinger

Eggnog Latte

Cranberry Syrup by Monin

Cranberry Martini
