This Just In ...

Kevin Fischer is a veteran broadcaster, the recipient of over 150 major journalism awards from the Milwaukee Press Club, the Wisconsin Associated Press, the Northwest Broadcast News Association, the Wisconsin Bar Association, and others. He has been seen and heard on Milwaukee TV and radio stations for over three decades. A longtime aide to state Senate Republicans in the Wisconsin Legislature, Kevin can be seen offering his views on the news on the public affairs program, "InterCHANGE," on Milwaukee Public Television Channel 10, and heard filling in on Newstalk 1130 WISN. He lives with his wife, Jennifer, and their lovely young daughter, Kyla Audrey, in Franklin.

Eventually all the goofy proposals find their way to Wisconsin, and we respond...hmmm, interesting

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times, on the blogs, on TV, on radio, that the really bad policy ideas originate on either coast (usually the west).

Having worked in the state Legislature for 15 years, and that’s the branch of government that MAKES laws, I know that elected state lawmakers and their hired staff keep a keen eye on what other states are doing and steal their ideas to promote similar proposed bills here.

I know I’ve blogged about one example that I simply can’t find but amounts to another tax or fee on motorists. The ludicrous miles per driven fee has come from the land of fruits and nuts, Callifornia. Like most stupid ideas like the Nehru jacket, the additional tax has found its way to Wisconsin where supposedly intelligent people sit around a table and nod their heads in agreement that, yes, this isn’t all that crazy when in reality, it’s truly nuts.

Why do we even give this the time of day? Why should we give this any consideration whatsover?
