She is married to Kevin Fischer of This Just In, and together they have a beautiful young daughter Kyla Audrey. In no particular order she loves dogs, wine, a good bargain, her family, pizza, and entertaining. It's not MY new normal!

I’m not a bigot, racist or hater.  I AM conservative, traditional and old-fashioned.  You’ll never see my car graced with a COEXIST bumper sticker.  Sorry.

In my family and close circle of friends I have the following:

·       Parents who are still married (Childhood sweethearts)

·       Brother-in-law and sister-in-law who are close to their 40th anniversary

·       No divorced friends

·       More married friends than single friends; all married friends have kids or step-kids (or both)

·       No Baby Daddies/Sperm Donors/Illegitimate children

·       All Christians (Various faiths)

·       Hard workers

·       No one in any form of rehab

Now if that makes me some sort of oddity, color me proud.  I am happy that Kyla will grow up in a nurturing, loving, stable, traditional and – gasp! – boring environment.  We’re not a traveling circus freak show.

Apparently though, our values just don’t mesh with society and how T.V. needs to portray the new family.  Fortunately for the viewing world, NBC will come to the rescue with its own version of a 2012 The Honeymooners.  This fall The New Normal will premier.  It’s everything you’d expect from a love-everyone, you-need-to-accept-alternative-lifestyles, you’re-the-one-with-the-problem mainstream network program.  The New Normal features two gay men, the surrogate mother of their baby, and her mother & daughter.  Really?  This is quality programming?  We’ve come a long way from the Huxtables and the Keatons, NBC.

Quoted in the article “The Postmodern Family,” “TV historian” (HUH?) Tim Brooks tells us that “in the 1960’s TV already featured multiple generations headed by single dads (My Three Sons & The Andy Griffith Show.)”  I’m sorry.  Comparing the uber-traditional Andy Griffith Show to The New Normal is like putting Ted Nugent’s publication next to PETA’s publication just because they both are cookbooks.

I shudder to think what is next for “prime” time television.  It makes me very glad that the only thing on our main T.V. is PBS Kids and Sprout.  While I am not Barney’s #1 fan, I’d take a purple dinosaur’s version of “We’re a happy fam-i-ly” over anything from “enlightened” script writers & producers.

NBC.  National Broadcasting Company?  Try Nothing But Crap.
