You CAN'T HELP FALLING IN LOVE with this recipe

Almost instantly after we began dating, Kevin turned me into an Elvis fan.  It didn’t take much persuading of course, as I had always liked the King’s music.  But soon I was reciting trivia, watching movies, and singing along to the more obscure tunes as easily as most others hum “Hound Dog.”

It seemed only natural then for us to take a trip to Memphis, where musical history was made and the memories are kept alive.  We did all the tourist agenda items:  the Graceland tour, Beale Street, Sun Studio.  Despite the fact I was only four years old when Elvis died, I clearly remember standing in my grandma’s kitchen when my mom told me the news.  The opportunity to walk around his home; to read about his philanthropic contributions as well as his musical ones; to realize the millions of lives he touched… it was surreal for me.

The trip was magical for so many reasons and we have incredible memories to last us until we’re there again with Kyla.  One of the tastiest recollections I have is of Elvis Presley’s Memphis Restaurant which unfortunately closed just a year or two later.  We had the pleasure of two evenings’ dinners there.  The first time I had typical Southern fare:  appetizer of fried pickles followed by fried round steak, potatoes and gravy.  But my second meal there was over-the-top just the way Elvis would have wanted it…  I had their signature dish, the fried peanut butter and banana sandwich!

Oh and did I mention we stayed at the end of Lonely Street?

We’re still a few years away from Walkin’ In Memphis again but in the mean time I like to celebrate Elvis Week in PB & B style.  The following is my own creation after searching high and low for a “just right” recipe.  I couldn’t find one that tickled my taste buds so I set out to concoct one.  This will leave you with a “ThankYouVeraMuch” on your lips for sure.

Peanut Butter and Banana Martini

8 oz. Vanilla vodka

4 oz. crème de Banana

2 Tbsp. creamy peanut butter

Approximately 1/3 to ½ of a pint of vanilla ice cream (just keep scooping until it looks right)

Blend in electric blender until smooth.

Pour into two well-chilled martini glasses and serve immediately.

Serves two, generously
