THE WEEKEND DOG-WALKING FORECAST: We grade the weather outlook for taking your pet outdoors.

TODAY:  Sunny. High of 86.  "A"

SUNDAY:  Sunny. High of 87. "A"  Just keep the bowls of cool water handy this weekend. Here are other ideas.

Here’s my lovely wife, Jennifer with this week’s main blog:

The sudden realization that shorts & swimsuit season is upon us can be quite a downer for most women.  So we do the Special K cereal thing, the cans of Slim Fast (give us a week, we’ll take off seven days) or some other form of dietary torture.  Clearly if you’ve been sedentary (a nice way of saying you’ve been laying on your derriere for the last six months eating bags of Doritos and Haagen-Dazs right from the carton) you’re most likely out of luck.  That itsy-bitsy, teeny-weeny, yellow polka-dot number should probably stay in the drawer.

Even if you’re not running scared at the thought of a two piece, have you given much thought to pounds packed on by your pooch?   Most people tend to be less physically active in the winter.  That’s no surprise given the Wisconsin temperatures can actually be COLDER than Anchorage, Alaska.  Admit it:  you don’t walk your dog as often or as long in January as you do in July.  And chances are you don’t change your dog’s diet in the winter months any more than your own.

Treats given out of love and not enough exercise can cause terrible results in dogs.  Maybe Spike doesn’t care how he looks in a Speedo but breathing problems, joint issues and even diabetes can result from the “killing your pet with kindness” syndrome.

Make a vow now, this summer, to help your dog maintain a healthy weight.  You could supplement his/her food with homemade recipes like these.  You can also learn a bit more about dog nutrition here.

f you’re lucky enough to live in Pennsylvania you could also take your pudgy Pug or chunky Chihuahua to the Fat Camp for Dogs.

The rewards of a little extra effort on your part will be a fitter furry friend; one with hopefully less health problems and one that could happily sport this number:
