Conservatively Speaking

State Senator Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin) represents parts of four counties: Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, and Walworth. Her Senate District 28 includes New Berlin, Franklin, Greendale, Hales Corners, Muskego, Waterford, Big Bend, the town of Vernon and parts of Greenfield, East Troy, and Mukwonago. Senator Lazich has been in the Legislature for more than a decade. She considers herself a tireless crusader for lower taxes, reduced spending and smaller government.

Wisconsin's Cost of Government Day

The year is about two-thirds completed; however government is just now getting its fingers off your money.  August 18, 2011, Day 230 of the year, is Wisconsin's 2011 Cost of Government Day.  Your earnings may now start benefitting you and your family, not the government.  Congratulations.

The Americans for Tax Reform Foundation calculates Cost of Government Day as the day enough gross income has been earned to pay for all local, state, and federal government.  The national average is August 12.  Wisconsin's is almost one week later, a testament to runaway spending caused by government expansion and unchecked waste and fraud during the past.

During coming months, I look forward to working with colleagues in the State Assembly and State Senate to continue to lower government's burden on Wisconsin taxpayers and move the Wisconsin Cost of Government Day earlier in the year.
