Something fishy about Carol Deptolla's latest review

I anxiously awaited Friday’s edition of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and Food critic Carol Deptolla’s piece featuring area fish fries.

Makes sense. Friday marks the first Friday of Lent, a time when popular fish fries become even more popular.

I wondered if Deptolla would continue to diss the south side in her review.

If you look at her articles dating back to February 2009, you see that after approximately 170 reviews (I stopped counting), Deptolla travels to the south side of Milwaukee or southern suburbs less than 30 times. Her idea of “south side” is a block, two or three south of Wisconsin Avenue, the Third Ward, the National Avenue area, Bay View, or Racine.

Deptolla did a fish fry compilation in the past that didn’t include Serb Hall. That’s sacrilegious!

So, this year what would she do?

Would she head to 51st and Oklahoma (Serb Hall)?

That’s not even the best fish fry on the south side (Sorry, it’s not).

What about the Packing House?

Erv’s Mug?

The Steakout?

Beer Belly’s?

Wegner's St. Martins Inn?

Would Deptolla’s company expense account lead her on the fish fry expedition to my side of town?

Well, it did. Her article is now online.

But again, by her serious omissions (see above mentioned restaurants), she missed the boat.
