Franklin Common Council scheduled to take up resolution honoring the late Lyle Sohns

Tonight, the Franklin Common Council at the request of Mayor Tom Taylor is scheduled to act on a resolution honoring former Franklin Alderman Lyle Sohns who died December 6, 2010.

On tonight’s agenda is a resolution respectfully requesting Milwaukee County to dedicate and name the trailheads of the Oak Leaf Trail in the City of Franklin in honor of Lyle Sohns (January 31, 1950 – December 6, 2010). During his aldermanic tenure, Sohns was instrumental in the creation of the Oak Leaf Trail.

I can’t think of a better tribute. To clarify, the Milwaukee County Board would have to approve the naming and is under no obligation to do so. Before the Franklin Common Council takes action, I would assume and hope that discussions with the appropriate County officials and others have taken place for assurances the name change would be supported.

UPDATE: The proposed resolution was tabled Tuesday night for further review. It could be brought back again at a future meeting.
